You can’t just take out the stump and put a new peg. Unlike, say the Knifty Knitter or the Martha Steward, Boyes loom pegs are not removable and so they are not replaceable. If you’re in the middle of your knitting and your peg breaks – you are out of luck. Unfortunately, Walmart and Joann’s now give their shoppers no other option and so new loomers think this is it for them. Can this happen with the KK loom? Yes, of course it happens but as a rare incident which is how it should be. I have Knifty Knitters that have been with me for at least 5 years – not one broken peg. However, the issue should be within reason. This is true regardless of the brand you like. If you buy plastic looms a peg WILL break, at some point. Plus according to some of the people reviewing this product on Amazon the pegs tend to break. The problem is that once it has your loop of yarn it doesn’t want to let it go. That slit may seem like a good idea because it holds on to your top loop of yarn as you flip the bottom yarn loop.
If you take a close look at the pegs you will find that the Boye loom pegs have a slit. The problem with the Boye Loom Set are those little heads. The little bumps looked like little heads. When I looked at a loom for the first time with all the little bumps on the tip of the pegs I couldn’t help but think of tiny soldiers standing side by side. One good thing about the Boye Loom Set is that like most loom sets it includes the loom knit hook and the yarn needle.In reality with the exception of the yarn and scissors very little else is needed. I must admit that I’m partial to the bright happy kiddy colors. I now find it at all local Wal-Mart stores. I like the box design which keeps the product well protected during transport. Those issues are why I don’t use this loom or recommend it. One thing that is consistent and several that are occasional. There are however a few small difference in this brand. The Boye loom set is basically the same as most of the major selling plastic mass-produced looms.
